Post-Dig: a 7v7 flag football play
The slot runs a dig at 10 yards across the middle, and the outside receiver runs a post over the top of it. The safety has to choose: come down on the dig and the post runs behind them, or stay deep and the dig is open underneath.

How Post-Dig works
- Y pushes 10 yards and runs a dig toward the middle.
- Z pushes 8 yards and angles to the post over the dig.
- X runs a go, H runs a 5-yard out, RB checks to the right flat.
- C sits 5 yards off the line.
The quarterback's read
- Watch the deep middle defender.
- They drive on the dig: throw the post.
- They stay deep: throw the dig.
- Under pressure: H's out or the RB flat.
Coaching points
- Z sells vertical to 8 yards so the safety can't read the post early.
- The dig breaks flat at 10, not back toward the line.
- Throw the post early, as Z crosses the safety's face.
When to call it
Against a single deep middle defender, on first down or second and long.
For youth teams
Older youth. The post throw is 20+ yards.
