How this schedule maker works
Matchups come from the circle method, the standard way to build a round robin. One team stays in place while the rest rotate one seat each round, so every team plays every other team exactly once with no repeats. Our schedule-making guide walks through doing it by hand.
- Byes: with an odd number of teams, each team sits out exactly once per round robin.
- Home and away alternate, and a double round robin flips every matchup for the second half.
- Time slots: games fill your fields first, then the next time slot. The matchup that plays first rotates each week so the same families aren't always there at 9 AM. The fairness table shows the count.
- One game per team per week. A skipped date pushes that round to the following week.
What it doesn't do
This tool builds matchups and a calendar. It doesn't know when someone else has booked a field, which referees are free, or what happens after a rainout. Frequently asked questions
How many weeks does a round robin take?
For n teams, a single round robin takes n−1 weeks if n is even and n weeks if n is odd, with one game per team per week. Eight teams need 7 weeks; nine teams need 9 weeks with one bye each. A double round robin doubles it.
How does this schedule maker decide matchups?
It uses the circle method: one team stays fixed and the others rotate one seat each round, so every team meets every other team exactly once per round robin with no repeats. Home and away alternate so no team is stuck at home all season.
Does it balance early and late games?
Yes. When a game day needs more than one time slot, the tool rotates which matchups get the first slot each week, and the fairness table shows how many first-slot games each team drew.
Is my data saved or uploaded?
No. The schedule is generated in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. A share link stores your inputs in the part of the URL after the #, which browsers never send to the website.
Can I skip holidays or rainout weeks?
Yes. List dates to skip and the schedule moves that round to the following week. For rainouts mid-season, add the date and regenerate, or use a league app that marks games postponed so standings stay accurate.
